Clinical Trials

Evidence-based nutrition protocols developed at the KNU Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital

Overview

From Bench to Bedside

Our clinical trials program operates at the intersection of molecular research and real-world veterinary practice. Conducted at the KNU Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH), each trial is designed to generate practice-changing evidence for the management of chronic diseases where nutrition plays a central therapeutic role.

All trials integrate BCS/MCS monitoring, standardized dietary assessment, and biomarker tracking — ensuring that nutritional interventions are evaluated with the same rigor applied to pharmacological treatments.

Active Research Trials

🫘

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)

Ongoing
  • Evaluate phosphorus-restricted diet efficacy across IRIS CKD stages 2–4
  • Monitor SDMA, creatinine, and UPC ratio as nutritional response markers
  • Compare protein source (plant vs. animal) effects on uremic toxin load
🎗️

Oncology & Cancer Cachexia

Ongoing
  • Assess muscle mass preservation (MCS) under high-fat, moderate-protein diets in tumor-bearing dogs
  • Evaluate omega-3 fatty acid (EPA/DHA) supplementation on inflammatory cytokine profiles
  • Develop cachexia grading and nutritional intervention criteria for veterinary oncology
🌾

Food Allergy & Adverse Food Reactions

Enrolling
  • Conduct prospective elimination diet trials with novel and hydrolyzed protein sources
  • Track gut microbiome shifts during dietary elimination and rechallenge phases
  • Establish breed-specific antigen sensitivity profiles using serum IgE panels

Clinical Guideline Development

Findings from our trials are synthesized into evidence-based clinical nutrition guidelines, providing veterinary practitioners with actionable, species-specific recommendations.
